History

1959
Resurrection Parish established under Bishop Paul F. Tanner.
Masses initially celebrated in Swisher Auditorium at Jacksonville University.
1962
Resurrection School opened with the first four grades and 89 students.
Classes initially held in Immaculate Conception School downtown.
1963
Parish buildings completed.
The church was on the first floor, and the school occupied the second floor.
1965
Social Hall (currently Mr. Skipper Center) was added.
1967-1978
Adrian Dominican Sisters served at Resurrection School.
1968-2007
Portable classrooms added and used for school purposes, from K-3rd grade, then PK, Art, and Music.
1972
Florida Catholic Conference accredits Resurrection School for the first time.
1979
The present Resurrection Church building is dedicated.
1980s
Pre-kindergarten added to enrich the school’s early education program.
Post-1982 Accreditation Visit
Computer literacy curriculum and Extended Day program initiated at the school, recommendations for a gymnasium established.
1985
Father Thomas Cody appointed pastor—transformed school into modern facility with conversion of the school auditorium into classrooms for primary grades, a computer lab, a space for Guidance and Health, a Main Office, and the Principal’s Office, additional bathrooms and additional storage spaces.
Post-1996 Accreditation Visit
School computers networked and media center automated.
1999
Mrs. Rosemary Nowotny appointed principal—implemented school community outreach projects, acquired “SMART Board”, began planning phase for new school.
2002
Monsignor Vincent Haut named pastor—developed and oversaw construction of new state-of-the-art school building, renovates bathrooms in existing school building.
2006
Ms. Patricia Sevilla appointed principal—implemented additional technology resources such as document cameras, digital projectors, and Safari Montage video streaming, oversaw portable classroom relocation and building construction.
2007
Home & School Association renovates Mr. Skipper Center.
2007
Groundbreaking for new building, portable classrooms turned over to parish Scout groups and youth ministry.
2008
Broderick Building completed and dedicated—houses PK-3rd grade and administrative wing.
2008
Home & School, RYTE group, and various members of school community renovate the computer lab and downstairs classrooms of Building A (existing school building).
2008
Father Jason Trull named pastor.
2009
Home & School Association renovates library.
